Kemubu Hydropower Project (Phase II) in Kelantan, Malaysia River Diversion Works Completed 3 Days Ahead of Schedule

date:2026-01-21 09:10

On January 12, 2026, the Kemubu Hydropower Project in Kelantan, Malaysia, undertaken by Anhe Hydropower Engineering Co., Ltd., successfully achieved river diversion. This milestone marks the project’s formal entry into the core phase of main civil works construction, laying a solid foundation for key subsequent stages such as powerhouse construction.
The hydropower station is located on a major tributary of the Kelantan River and adopts a run-of-river layout. It consists of a powerhouse dam section and a gated spillway section, with a total installed capacity of 29 MW. Upon completion, the project will significantly enhance the local supply of clean energy, optimize the regional energy structure, and strongly promote green and low-carbon development.
The river diversion works faced challenges such as frequent heavy rainfall in Southeast Asia’s tropical rainforest climate, complex coordination among multiple stakeholders, and difficulties in mobilizing local resources. Anhe worked closely with SMEC Supervision Company and the project owner to conduct precise assessments, implement targeted strategies, and overcome difficulties through effective collaboration, ensuring the smooth execution of the diversion works. Their efforts received high recognition from all parties involved. The SMEC supervision team highly praised Anhe’s outstanding professional capabilities and its effective measures for controlling rainfall-related risks. The project owner also commended the results for exceeding expectations, particularly recognizing Anhe’s professionalism and strong sense of responsibility in addressing key challenges, implementing solutions, and resolving issues, and described Anhe as a reliable and high-quality contractor.
With more than 70 years of global infrastructure project supervision experience, SMEC, together with the project owner, gave Anhe Hydropower dual recognition for its excellent performance in this river diversion work. This not only demonstrates Anhe’s strong capabilities in overseas hydropower engineering but also enhances the company’s international reputation and influence, laying a solid foundation for further expansion in Southeast Asia and the global hydropower market.
Going forward, the Anhe team will build on this success by coordinating multi-disciplinary construction works such as blasting and steel structure installation, striving to overcome upcoming technical and management challenges, and completing the project with high standards and quality. With this benchmark project as a cornerstone, the company will continue to strengthen its presence in the Malaysian market, actively expand cooperation opportunities, and write a new chapter in the development of its overseas hydropower busine.
