Phase I River Closure Successfully Completed for the Kuala Gris Hydropower Project in Kelantan, Malaysia.

date:2026-01-09 15:02

On January 7, 2026, the Phase I river closure works of the Kuala Gris Hydropower Project in Kelantan, Malaysia, undertaken by Anhe Hydropower Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Company, were successfully completed. As a key milestone of the project, this successful river closure marks a breakthrough over the initial constraints and the full entry into the main construction phase, laying a solid foundation for subsequent works. It also demonstrates the “Anhe Speed” and the Company’s strong performance capability in overseas project execution.
The hydropower station is located in the Sungai Galas river basin in Kelantan State, with a total installed capacity of 25 MW. It is a run-of-river (riverbed-type) power station and an important component of the local small-scale hydropower development system.
The river closure operation faced dual challenges from both the natural environment and construction conditions. On one hand, the Sungai Galas River features a wide riverbed and large discharge, with complex terrain and poor geological conditions along both banks. On the other hand, the available fill material on site consisted mainly of fine clay, with a lack of conventional rock materials typically used for river closure works, posing significant challenges to technical execution and organizational coordination. Through scientific management and technical problem-solving, the project team ultimately completed the river closure successfully.
The successful river closure of the Kuala Gris Hydropower Project not only highlights the Company’s outstanding technical problem-solving capabilities and efficient project management in overseas hydropower engineering, but also demonstrates the remarkable effectiveness of its integrated “high-quality design + efficient construction” solution. The smooth completion of this key milestone will strongly support the Company’s further expansion in the Malaysian hydropower market. Looking ahead, the Company will continue to leverage its comprehensive strengths in quality, design, and efficiency to enhance the local recognition and market influence of the “Anhe” brand.
Next, the project team will take this successful river closure as a new starting point to systematically optimize construction organization, accelerate the subsequent works of upstream cofferdam embankment filling, and concurrently advance key activities of the main project. All efforts will be made to ensure the project is commissioned and begins power generation at the earliest possible date, continuously contributing “Anhe Strength” to the deepening of China–Malaysia energy cooperation and the sustainable economic and social development of the local community.
