On October 16, 2024, the diversion tunnel of the third-level power station in Steung Meteuk, Cambodia, was successfully completed after 226 days of excavation, 132 days ahead of schedule. On October 27, a ceremony was held at the project site to celebrate the closure of the first-level power station and the excavation and completion of the diversion tunnel of the third-level power station. The leaders of the Cambodian National Hydropower Administration and the general manager of the project company, Huang Weifeng, attended the ceremony.
The main and branch tunnels of the water diversion tunnel of the Steung Meteuk Level 3 Power Station are 2058.3 meters in total, and are circular tunnels with a diameter of 8.2 meters. During the construction process, the project team always adhered to high standards and strict requirements, continuously optimized the construction plan, strengthened safety and quality control, and promptly connected with the owner, supervisor, design and other units when encountering problems, and did a good job of process control in all aspects, effectively solving various problems and risks encountered during the construction process, and finally achieving the goal of penetration ahead of schedule. The tunnel is divided into two working faces, the entrance tunnel entered on April 1, and the exit tunnel entered on March 4. The average monthly excavation single-end footage is 145.6 meters, and the highest monthly excavation footage is 224.3 meters.
At the celebration ceremony, General Manager Huang Weifeng highly praised our company for the implementation of the Steung Meteuk II and III hydropower projects. He congratulated us for breaking the record for single-end monthly advance rates in tunnel excavation for similar projects in Cambodia. He also awarded Yan Qingdong and Wen Fuling the "Outstanding Individual" title and presented Wang Guoqian with an honorary certificate for "Outstanding Contributor."
After the event, General Manager Huang Weifeng and his team visited various construction sites, including the dams of the Steung Meteuk II and III hydropower stations, the diversion tunnel, and the power plant. They conducted on-site inspections and discussed the project’s progress and existing challenges with the construction management team. Finally, General Manager Huang emphasized that as the peak dry season approaches, while efforts are made to accelerate the progress, it is essential to prioritize safety and quality to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
As a critical control project, the early breakthrough of the diversion tunnel marks a significant milestone, laying a solid foundation for the smooth completion of subsequent work. Next, the project team will follow General Manager Huang Weifeng’s instructions, reinforcing detailed management and diligently implementing each task. The goal is to ensure that the hydropower station project stands as a model of quality and safety, delivering an exceptional result for the owner company and the wider community.
