At the invitation of Papua New Guinea Minister of Communications and Energy Sam Basil, a delegation led by Chairman Mr. Zhou Yuefei visited Papua New Guinea from August 31 to September 5, 2018, so as to get a comprehensive understanding on the political environment, institutional environment, business climate, foreign trade policy, social and cultural convention, etc. of the country. The delegation also carried out site survey and field exploration on the proposed hydropower project.

Mr. Zhou Yuefei led a delegation to visit Hon. Sam Basil, Minister of Communications and Energy and Hon. Richard Maru, Minister for National Planning and Monitoring. The delegation also made a detailed introduction on the company's preliminary hydropower investigation in the country, and made a macro analysis on the economic and social benefits to be brought by the cooperative hydropower projects. The ministers expressed great expectations for the cooperation between the two sides and addressed the delegation's concerns, such as the national energy policy, electricity demand and future electricity development trend and planning of Papua New Guinea. The two sides not only reached a “three steps development strategy” consensus on cooperative projects and cooperation modality, but also planned to make joint efforts to integrate the cooperation projects into the national development plan.

Formal Discussion between Zhou Yuefei and the Minister

Subsequently, the delegation paid a formal visit to Mr. Liu Linlin, commercial counselor of the Economic and Trade Section of Chinese Embassy in Papua New Guinea, and made a report on the company's situation and the plan of cooperating with PNG in hydropower development. Counsellor Liu expressed that Papua New Guinea has great potential, not merely because of its abundant water resources, but also its large demand for electricity, so there are many opportunities for hydropower companies. He also expressed his good wishes for CHFE to have a prosperous future in Papua New Guinea with its own strength.
